I’ve been diligently saving my plastic bags (from loaves of bread, the newspaper, etc) for recycling, only to find that though the Needham dump collects plastic bags, they do not actually recycle them. Bags are collected in a separate container so they don’t blow all over the neighborhood and require an heroic cleanup effort.

But since it feels wrong to just throw them away, I have finally gotten over my qualms about asking my dog-owning neighbor if she could use them for poop pickup during her dog walks, and she was delighted! While it doesn’t solve the larger problem of too many plastic bags in our environment, at least the bags are being and re-used, and my neighbor isn’t going out to buy new bags for the same purpose.

What are you getting rid of that someone else could use?
