Saturday Oct. 14th is Needham’s Annual “Household Hazardous Waste Day” & the last Paint Collection Day in 2017
Household Hazardous Waste Day:
Household Hazardous Waste Day (HHW) gives all Needham residents with proof of residency the opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste at no cost. Read the Recycling and Transfer Station (RTS) informational flyer to find out what products/materials you may bring to this event.
Small amounts of some of these products, such as hair dye and chlorine bleach, may be disposed of with regular trash if done properly, but larger amounts should be taken to the HHW event.
Ammunition, Fireworks, Explosives, Asbestos
Fire Extinguishers (take to RTS)
Commercial hazardous waste
Construction waste/building materials
- Empty aerosol cans (recycle these)
- Gas cylinders (other than propane)
- Infectious or biological wastes
Latex Paint (dispose of in regular trash if empty, or after drying out any remaining liquid)
Medicines or syringes (take to RTS)
Smoke Detectors(dispose of in trash)
The HHW event will be held at the Department of Public Works (DPW), 470 Dedham Avenue, from 8:00am – 12:00pm on October 14th. Read more about this event.
Paint Collection Days:
The RTS holds a Paint Collection day on the 3rd Saturday of the month from April through September for Needham residents with RTS stickers, at the RTS facility, 1421 Central Avenue. However, all Needham residents are welcome to drop off paint and other related products on October 14th from 8:00am – 3:30 pm, at the RTS facility, 1421 Central Avenue.
Please note that while the annual HHW and the October Paint Collection events are being held on same day, the ending time and the locations are different.
Most paint can be disposed of with regular trash, so please review which products will be collected at the following links.
All Needham residents are encouraged to take advantage of these events to dispose properly of hazardous items.
