Mass. Interfaith Power & Light’s annual meeting and celebration will be held on May 1st from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Boston Synagogue. Roger S. Gottlieb, author of A Greener Faith: Religious Environmentalism and Our Planet’s Future, will be the keynote speaker. Among the eight individuals and two organizations to be honored at the event will be two from Needham:
- Rt. Rev. Roy (Bud) Cederholm, Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, launched a Green Grants Initiative to encourage, challenge and support all congregations in the Episcopal diocese in environmental stewardship. Bishop Cederholm is former pastor of Christ Church, Needham and a Needham resident.
- The First Parish of Needham, Unitarian Universalist, will also be honored for their leadership by example. The First Parish lowered its greenhouse gas emissions by 40% and its energy costs by 50%, and was recognized as the first Energy Star congregation in Massachusetts.
