For a recycling fee of $29.99 (price as of 2023), household residents can bring in portable TVs, tube TVs smaller than 32 inches, and flat panel/LCD/plasma/LED TVs smaller than 50 inches, with limit of 2 items per household per day. Pick up of larger TVs can be arranged for a $39.99 fee when a replacement product is delivered by Geek Squad or Best Buy Home Delivery. Stand-alone pickup and recycling of 2 large products (including TVs), along with an unlimited number of select smaller products is $199.99. See details. Needham residents with an RTS sticker may bring any size TV to the RTS North Area – ($20 fee in 2023).

Thermometers/ Thermostats (Mercury) (updated 2/2023)

State regulations prohibit the disposal as trash of any device containing mercury.

RTS Needham

Residents with an RTS sticker may bring mercury thermometers and other mercury containing batteries and devices to the Needham RTS Universal Waste Shed near the electronics and scrap metal areas.

Needham Health Department

781-455-7940, located  in the Rosemary Recreation Complex at 178 Rosemary St., also accepts mercury thermometers, thermostats and mercury button batteries.

RTS Needham

Needham residents with an RTS sticker may bring automobile and truck tires to the RTS for a fee of $7.50 for car tires and $15.00 for truck tires (price as of 2023).

Circle of Hope provides infants, children, and adults experiencing homelessness in Boston and Metro West with clothing and necessities in order to preserve and enhance overall health and personal dignity. Accepts unopened hygiene essentials, including hand soap, sanitizer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, deodorant, pads, tampons, toothpaste, toothbrushes. Drop-offs are by appointment at various times during the week. See drop-off  guidelines and complete list of desired items.

Will accept low flow toilets (made in 2005 or later), bathroom faucets, pedestal sinks, bathroom fixtures, and other surplus building materials. Click here to check their donation guidelines. The Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources is a charitable nonprofit that accepts donations of new and gently used materials for resale. Please call or fill out a donation form to find out whether your surplus materials are acceptable.

Tooth Brushes (updated 2/2023)

TIP: Reuse your old (disinfected) toothbrush to clean items around the house, such as grouting, jewelry (with baking soda), laundry stains (with baking soda), car battery terminals, etc.

Some people choose bamboo toothbrushes with handles that are compostable.

You can send your old and unwanted trophies to Lamb Award & Engraving, where they are reused to make new trophies. They also accept old plaques, sculptures, and medals. You must email them ahead of time before sending the trophies. Please include recycling in your subject line.

Medals 4 Mettle

Accepts earned marathon, half-marathon, and triathalon medals from athletes (adults and children). A worldwide network of physicians and volunteers then awards these medals attached to a Medals4Mettle ribbon to children and adults fighting debilitating illnesses who might not be able to run a race, but are in a race of their own just to continue to live their life.
