SUMMARY:Talk on Carbon Pricing Legislation
DESCRIPTION:State Senator Michael Barrett will be speaking at the Needham Democratic Town Committee meeting on  Thursday\, April 30\, at 7:30 pm at the Needham Historical Society\, 1147 Central Avenue\, (parking is in the Newman School lot).  His talk will begin promptly at 7:30\, so please try to arrive early.  Senator Barrett will be providing details about a bill he has filed:  “An Act Combatting Climate Change\,” which currently has over 40 co-sponsors –  including State Representative Denise Garlick. The bill calls for a phased-in charge on fuels in proportion to their carbon dioxide emissions\, with the proceeds to be returned to residents and employers.

SUMMARY:Mass Energy Consumers Alliance annual meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join Mass Energy Consumers Alliance for their 31st Annual Meeting where they will recognize leaders in renewable energy and energy efficiency.  The meeting on October 30th is free and open to the public.\n\nThe meeting is from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Intercontinental Hotel Boston.  Christina Halfpenny\, Director of Energy Efficiency at the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources\, will be the featured speaker.  The high point of Mass Energy’s annual meetings is always the recognition of people and organizations who are leading the way to a new energy future in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and New England.  This year’s awardees are: \n\nSolarize Massachusetts – The innovative Solarize Mass. program\, brainchild of a partnership between Mass. DOER and Mass. Clean Energy Center\, has made solar more accessible for residents across the state through targeted community-based outreach.\nRepresentative Lori Ehrlich – As state Representative for the Massachusetts 8th Essex District\, Lori has worked tirelessly on efforts to shut down coal generation\, fix gas leaks\, and promote renewable energy in MA.\nConservation Law Foundation – Since 1966\, CLF’s mission has been to advocate on behalf of the region’s environment and its communities. CLF has recently focused on natural gas leaks and their threat to our climate and health.\nHealth Care Without Harm – Together with its partners\, Health Care Without Harm shares a vision of a health care system that promotes the health of people and the environment. We applaud the connection they’ve made between shutting down fossil fuels and promoting health.\nMount St. Mary’s Abbey – The sisters at Mount St. Mary’s Abbey in Wrentham have been using their land to support renewable energy projects\, including their own 100kW wind turbine and more recently an 8.4 MW solar array in partnership with the city of Franklin.
