If you’d like to purchase an item that has not already been pre-ordered\, politely point to the item and our vendors will pack it up for you (and NOT in your reusable bags\, those you can leave at home)\nContact-less payment – If you pre-order\, you’re all set\, but if you need to pay for something at the market\, we encourage you to use credit/debit/PayPal/etc. in order to minimize contact.\n\nWe hope that these guidelines help you feel safe on market day and we’re looking forward to giving you a great big social distancing wave HELLO this Sunday!

SUMMARY:Sustainable Wellesley Hosts Online Educational Forum About Leaf Blowers and Our Health
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the exhaust from single stroke engines contains PM2.5\, shorthand for particulate matter that is 2.5 microns in size\, which hangs in the air a long time and lodges in lung tissue.*  Use of this equipment by landscaping services and homeowners in Needham is widespread\, and affects all of us. \nTo learn more about this issue\, join Sustainable Wellesley for a conversation about how lawn care practices impact public health. Jamie L. Banks\, PhD\, MS and founder of Quiet Communities\, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to protecting public health\, the environment\, and quality of life by reducing noise and related pollution\, has worked with over 30 towns to mediate discussions with residents\, professionals and town officials. With input from a panel of experts\, including Dan Mabe of American Green Zones Alliance (AGZA)\,  Banks will share ways her work has led to cleaner\, quieter living in towns including Lexington and Concord\, MA\, Southampton\, NY and Chevy Chase\, MD. \nSpace is limited\, so Register for the webinar now. Open/view event flyer. \nThe Forum is being co-sponsored by Sustainable Wellesley\, Wellesley Natural Resources Commission\, and Wellesley’s Sustainable Energy Committee. \n*Sources:  Quiet Communities and Harvard study \n

SUMMARY:The C-Change Conversation on Climate Science
DESCRIPTION:Watch the replay of this program on YouTube.\n\nWhy is is that the hardest questions to answer about climate change can be the most basic ones\, like: \n\nHow do we know climate change is real and caused by humans?\nWhat is the scientific consensus?\nWhat are the dangers?\nIs there hope?\n\nIt isn’t just that there is so much information. It’s also the challenge meeting your audience where they are. “Climate Change and You” is a presentation that does just that. It is an engaging and compelling program that uses visual data\, charts and photographs to provide an accessible overview of climate science and a clear-eyed assessment of the risks ahead. It focuses on the interplay of science\, economics and policy (including the benefits of moving to a low-carbon economy)\, rather than depicting climate change as an environmental or political issue. \nC-Change Conversations\, a New Jersey-based nonprofit organization\, developed the 50-minute presentation in consultation with independent climate scientists and public policy specialists and has presented it to more than 7\,500 people nationwide. \nJoin Green Needham and the Friends of the Needham Public Library at 2:00 pm on Sunday February 7th for a Webinar presentation of “Climate Change and You” by Dallas Hetherington from C-Change conversations\, with questions and answers following the program. \nBetter yet\, bring along a friend you’ve wanted to introduce climate change to\, but didn’t know how! \nRegister for free here at https://tiny.cc/needham-cchange/ . You will receive a link to the Zoom presentation two days before the program. \nMore information: Gay Ellen Dennett\, Program Specialist\, Needham Free Public Library\, at gdennett@minlib.net or 781-455-7559 x223.

SUMMARY:Medfield Program: Possibility of a Zero Net Energy School
DESCRIPTION:source: wickedlocal.com \nOn Thursday\, Feb. 25\, at 7 p.m.\, the Dale Street Sustainability Subcommittee of the Dale Street School Building Committee and the Medfield Energy Committee will hold a community forum on the energy efficiency options for the new school.  \nHear from Arrowstreet\, the Dale Street School architect\, about the design considerations to be made over the next two months related to energy efficiency and net zero emissions. \nThis is an opportunity to learn about the environmental concepts and design considerations so that when the technical analysis\, first cost\, lifetime cost and savings data are available\, there is community understanding of the concepts. \nA net zero building uses only the energy that it can generate and being able to achieve that is a function of the building design.  Among the design considerations are fuel type\, envelope efficiency\, mechanical systems/heat pumps\, solar power and battery storage.  We will also discuss other areas of building performance/sustainability related to the building design. \nAs an added feature\, representatives from Eversource will be available to discuss how these concepts can apply to your home.  Learn how to work toward maximum energy efficiency and reduce your energy costs and reliance on fossil fuels. \nVisit www.town.medfield.net/agendacenter\, then click on “Dale Street School Building Committee” for the agenda and Zoom link.

SUMMARY:A National Climate Action Plan
DESCRIPTION:With new national leadership we have a historic opportunity to tackle the climate crisis. \nGreen Needham is pleased to join Temple Beth Shalom’s Environmental Action Committee to host a Zoom meeting on March 15th at 7:30 pm with Derek Walter\, the Environmental Defense Fund’s U.S. Climate Program Director. Derek will discuss the EDF’s bold and comprehensive Climate Action Plan. \nSince its founding in 1967\, the Environmental Defense Fund has grown to be one of the most effective and most respected environmental organizations in the United States. To accomplish its work\, the EDF’s 750 scientists\, economists and business experts deploy science and technological innovation; economics and market incentives; nonpartisan policy\, law and advocacy; and private sector partnerships. \nThe EDF’s Climate Action Plan to stabilize the global climate focuses on the highest impact opportunities: the biggest emitting industrial sectors — energy\, transportation and land use; and the highest emitting regions — the United States\, European Union\, India\, China and Brazil. \nJoin us on March 15th at 7:30 pm by registering here.

SUMMARY:The Next Ten Years -- What Bold Climate Action Means for Us
DESCRIPTION:Heeding the dire warnings of climate scientists\, the Massachusetts legislature recently set ambitious goals for a 50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030\, on the way to reaching net zero emissions by 2050.  Why are the next ten years so important? On Tuesday\, May 4 at 7:30 pm. First Parish in Needham\, with Green Needham as cosponsor\, will host a Zoom presentation on The Next Ten Years: What Bold Climate Action Means for Us. As part of its Lane Lyceum Tuesday Night Speaker Series\, First Parish has invited Larry Chretien\, executive director of the Green Energy Consumers Alliance\, and Kai Salem\, the organization’s Policy Coordinator\, to help us envision the changes necessary to meet the State’s emissions reduction targets. How will the new Massachusetts Climate Roadmap bill help make an environmentally just transition away from fossil fuels? What might this unprecedented pace of change mean for our everyday lives\, and how can we help? Find the Zoom link here.\n

SUMMARY:Winds of Change Celebration at Needham Town Common
DESCRIPTION:We can all feel it…. the wind is turning\, change is on the way. Let us face towards it and fill our sails. Let us rise up on the winds of change. Let us reclaim our future and declare our will for a green and just world! \nThe COVID-19 pandemic has made us STOP\, look & take stock. \nIt has shown us how unfair and unjust our world is and how much we rely on others\, especially our mostly invisible citizens and other countries\, for our everyday needs. But\, all around us\, we are witnessing people rising to the challenges and we are all re-discovering the most important things in life: our immediate surroundings\, our health and the wellbeing of those who touch our lives\, and the need to solve our challenges together. \nWe notice how quickly governments can act if there is the political will to do so. For a very short time\, the highest greenhouse gas emitting countries demonstrated that it’s possible to create a society that doesn’t depend on dirty fossil fuel. \nBefore we are fully immersed in ‘business as usual’\, now is the time to celebrate the sheer love\, care\, and inventiveness of humans and to inspire ourselves and others to affirm that a greener and more just world is possible. \nLet us affix\, tie\, and secure our colours to the mast\, let them fly and make sure our hearts are to fly on the winds of change. Let us bedeck our homes and gardens with messages and symbols of appreciation\, hope\, solidarity and just demands. \nJoin us at 1:30 pm on Sunday\, June 6th in Needham at the Town Common for a collaborative event on behalf of Extinction Rebellion Boston\, Green Needham\, Mothers Out Front\, and EJN for families. We will be envisioning the future we would like for our children and future generations and celebrating the start of summer with kite flying\, windsocks\, and art. \nThis is a family-friendly community event. All are welcome. \nParticipants are requested to wear masks and social distance. \nThis event is part of the Emergency Everywhere Needham Campaign\, an effort to declare a climate and ecological emergency in the Town of Needham. \nPlease RSVP at the event website\, below.\nAccessibility\nWheelchair accessible
