They do not have to be wearable, and single shoes are acceptable. They are not accepted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.needhamma.gov\/265\/Household-Hazardous-Waste-Day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Household Hazardous Waste Collection<\/a> day. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/safely-manage-hazardous-household-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mass. Dept. of Energy and Environmental Affairs<\/a> has a drop-down product search that instructs to put smoke detectors in the trash after removing the battery.
