{"id":7285,"date":"2017-08-14T16:16:09","date_gmt":"2017-08-14T20:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/?page_id=7285"},"modified":"2026-04-23T13:35:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T17:35:22","slug":"recycling","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/toward-zero-waste-2\/recycling\/","title":{"rendered":"Recycling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are\u00a0<strong><em>you\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>recycling \u201csmart\u201d and avoiding the most common recycling mistakes?\u00a0\u00a0Learning to<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/recycling-pic-wiki-commons.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12973 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/recycling-pic-wiki-commons.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/em> recycle <em><strong>correctly\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0<strong><em>important\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>for several reasons.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13885\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13885\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13885\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Adding items to recycle bins that you \u201chope\u201d or \u201cwish\u201d were recyclable, even though they are not, adds expense to the process as the recycling facility must separate these items out and divert them to the trash.\u00a0 Examples include light bulbs, mirrors, plastic flower pots\/toys, patio furniture, coat hangers, tools and other metal objects.<\/li>\n<li>You help the town of Needham save money<\/li>\n<li>You help improve local, and ultimately global, recycling practices.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s the right thing to do and it\u2019s easy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"gnc-project-subheader\">What <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span> \u00a0can do to recycle right:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Use our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/projects\/living-green\/recyclopedia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Recyclopedia<\/a> to find places to donate your used, but still &#8220;usable&#8221; stuff.<\/li>\n<li>Know about recycling something that&#8217;s not yet in the Recyclopedia? page<\/a> to learn how you can use less stuff in your daily life, and extend the useful life of the stuff you do need.<\/li>\n<li>Learn how you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/food\/reducing-food-waste\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reduce food waste at home<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/food\/home-composting-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compost<\/a> your food scraps at home<\/li>\n<li>Bring the food scraps that you can <em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em> compost at home (meat, dairy, bones, etc.) to the Needham RTS&#8217;s food composting bins. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/food\/home-composting-alternatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Residents can drop off their food waste<\/strong><\/a> &#8211;
