{"id":1316,"date":"2011-06-11T10:00:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-11T14:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/?p=1316"},"modified":"2011-07-15T12:55:01","modified_gmt":"2011-07-15T16:55:01","slug":"lwv-honors-eleanor-rosellini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/2011\/06\/lwv-honors-eleanor-rosellini\/","title":{"rendered":"LWV honors Eleanor Rosellini"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the June 8 Annual  Meeting of the League of Women Voters of Needham, <strong>Eleanor Rosellini <\/strong> received the League&#8217;s Greta Schirmer award.\u00a0 This award is given each year to  honor Greta Schirmer &#8211; a member who died in 1980 and was described as  \u201clarge in accomplishment and high in achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1317\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1317\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Rosellini-LWV-award.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1317\" title=\"Rosellini LWV award\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Rosellini-LWV-award-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Rosellini-LWV-award-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Rosellini-LWV-award.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1317\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lindsay Acomb (L) and Susan McGarvey (R) present Eleanor Rosellini with the Greta Schirmer award as League President Karen Price looks on. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Acomb and  Susan McGarvey presented the award to Eleanor.\u00a0 Eleanor has been the  <strong>chair of the League\u2019s Climate Action committee<\/strong> since 2007.\u00a0 In that role  she has led efforts to organize several Fall Forums to educate  Needhamites about environmental issues.\u00a0 She is also on <strong>the Steering  Committee of Green Needham Collaborative<\/strong> where she has been instrumental  in the Solar Challenge which resulted in solar panels being installed  at High Rock School and in the 10% Energy Challenge to encourage  residents to reduce their home energy use.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Greis, Chair of the Green Needham Collaborative, used the  following words to describe her, \u201cBecause my introduction to Eleanor and  my work with her for Green Needham has been all about energy and the  environment, an image from the natural world would seem to fit.\u00a0 The  obvious image for someone you can depend upon so absolutely and who is  visible from everywhere is a rock.\u00a0 But the image that works best for me  is a river &#8211; constantly in forward motion, unconstrained by  artificially drawn boundaries and quietly determined to reach its  destination, carving new paths and wearing down or moving around  obstacles she encounters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At her  church, First Parish Unitarian Universalist, Eleanor led the effort to  achieve the \u2018<strong>Green Sanctuary<\/strong>\u2019 designation by her denomination.\u00a0 Her  minister, John Buehrens, described her as\u00a0 \u201can exemplary congregant and  citizen, promoting dialogue rather than dogma, the common good rather  than her own preferences.
