The Commonwealth and towns involved in the pilot will gain valuable experience in preparing for the wider adoption of electric-powered vehicles.  <\/p>\n<p>Over time, increased adoption will be a significant factor in <b class=\"c\">reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector<\/b> (<b>27%<\/b> of total US greenhouse gas emissions) and <b class=\"c\">reducing our dependence of foreign sources of petroleum<\/b> (imports account for <b>49%<\/b> of all US petroleum consumption).  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hopkinton, Newton and Brookline are nearby Green Communities among 25 Massachusetts cities and towns that will receive electric vehicle charging stations under a grant program announced last November.
