We hope so! Important environmental initiatives have been passed at the local level, including approving \u00a0a plastic bag ban, adopting stricter energy\u00a0 standards for new construction, and moving forward on municipal energy aggregation. There will be more to come as the Town decides on implementing recommendations of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.needhamma.gov\/5403\/Sustainable-Needham\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Sustainable Needham Climate Action Roadmap<\/a> and addresses other sustainability issues.<\/p>\n<p>Informing yourself about the April 9 election is easy. Visit the League of Women Voters of Needham&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/lwv-needham.org\/gateway-2024-needham-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Gateway to the Needham Annual Election<\/a> to get a wealth of information about who is running for Town offices and Town Meeting, what the ballot question is, where to vote, plus The Needham Channel <a href=\"https:\/\/lwv-needham.org\/needham-channel-interviews-select-board-candidates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">candidate interviews<\/a> and information about the Monday, \u00a0March 25\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/lwv-needham.org\/candidates-night-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Candidates Night.<\/a>\u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/needhamobserver.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Needham Observer<\/a> will also be covering the election.<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder to vote, in the coming weeks watch for some creative, eye-catching &#8220;Vote on April 9&#8221; signs around town. The League of Women Voters of Needham, as part of its continuing efforts to increase voter turnout in local elections (only 15% of registered voters cast a ballot in the 2023 local election!), is encouraging Needham residents and organizations\u00a0 to make their own Get Out the Vote yard \u00a0signs.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/VOTE-sign-child.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-18221\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/VOTE-sign-child-150x150.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/VOTE-sign-child-150x150.webp 150w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/VOTE-sign-child-270x270.webp 270w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/VOTE-sign-child-230x230.webp 230w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/VOTE-sign-child-45x45.webp 45w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The challenge is to create the signs from reused\/recycled materials and make them usable for future elections (just changing the April date). First Parish in Needham, Unitarian Universalist, will be displaying a lawn sign painted on a discarded cabinet door. Adults and children in the congregation painted their designs on old candidate lawn signs which had been painted over with leftover white exterior paint. Even old tray tables were put to use.<\/p>\n<p>See more details and examples on the <a href=\"https:\/\/lwv-needham.org\/make-vote-yard-signs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Needham League&#8217;s website<\/a>,\u00a0 including a lively Public Service Announcement from The Needham Channel.<\/p>\n<p>Si Si Goneconto, who is leading the homemade VOTE sign initiative, expressed her hopes. &#8220;I chose to be an American, and with that choice came the gift and privilege of casting my vote.
