During World Water Week, March 21st -27th, <\/strong>over 20 businesses in and around Needham are joining Hillside School students in a nationwide UNICEF campaign to bring safe drinking water to millions of children.\u00a0 For every dollar donated by patrons of participating businesses to the UNICEF Tap project this week, a child will\u00a0 receive clean drinking water for 40 days.\u00a0 Last year, the UNICEF Tap project campaign involved thousands of restaurants nationwide.<\/p>\n

Local restaurant participation in the Tap project was spearheaded by students in Hillside teachers\u2019 George Goneconto\u2019s and Amy Cicala\u2019s 2nd<\/sup>– and 4th<\/sup>-grade classes, respectively. For weeks, the students have been building community support for the Tap Project through restaurant visits and presentations to local parent organizations, schools and business groups. Supported by the Green Needham Collaborative, UNICEF World Water Week culminates a service-focused curriculum on global water usage and conservation launched in September 2009 by Ciccala and Goneconto.\u00a0\u00a0 Last year\u2019s effort raised over $1000 for the UNICEF Tap project.<\/p>\n
