The organization and the community&#8217;s efforts were subsequently recognized in a citation presented to Green Needham by State Representative Denise Garlick<\/p>\n<div style=\"width:425px;float:right;margin-left: 10px;margin-bottom: 10px;\">httpv:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DghVfDybAZA<\/div>\n<p>During the Needham 1,000 campaign, over <b>900 local households<\/b> took the Challenge, pledging to implement energy-saving actions that would keep over <b>7 million pounds of CO2<\/b> out of the atmosphere each year.  The wrap-up also recognized multiple businesses and community organizations that helped recruit families to take the challenge or made significant improvements in their organization&#8217;s use of energy.  <\/p>\n<p>Green Needham Chair <b>Michael Greis<\/b> opened the presentation ceremony by positioning the importance of the efforts of people and organizations throughout Needham in promoting a more sustainable future for Needham.   <\/p>\n<div style=\"width:320px;float:left;margin-right: 10px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Green-Needham-House-of-Representatives-Citation.jpg\" width=\"300px\" height=\"385px\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right;\">\nFollowing the completion of this campaign, Green Needham was <b>honored to be recognized by State Representative Denise Garlick for its accomplishments<\/b>.\n<\/p>\n<p>At a subsequent Green Needham meeting, Representative Garlick presented Green Needham with a <b>Citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives<\/b> commending the organization&#8217;s &#8220;outstanding commitment to reducing energy use&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>Accepting the citation for Green Needham, Chair Michael Greis noted it recognizes not just the hard work of many individuals in Green Needham, but a community-wide effort to make Needham an even better place to live and work.  <\/p>\n<p>That community-wide effort will continue in 2013.  Green Needham has already announced the formation of its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/2013\/01\/green-needham-creates-new-home-energy-savings-team\/\" title=\"Green Needham Creates new Home Energy Savings Team\">Home Energy Savings team<\/a> to build on the success of the Community Energy Challenge and Needham 1,000 campaigns to help homeowners save energy and money, while reducing carbon emissions and increasing local economic activity. <\/p>\n<p>The Needham 1,000 plaque, a poster presentation highlighting the energy-saving accomplishments of community businesses and organizations, and the Citation from the House of Representatives are now all on display on the first floor of Needham&#8217;s Town Hall.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Green Needham&#8217;s October Needham 1,000 Plaque Presentation at Powers Hall wrapped up several years of community accomplishment on the 10% Energy Challenge.
