{"id":401,"date":"2010-05-15T13:58:11","date_gmt":"2010-05-15T18:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/?p=401"},"modified":"2010-12-08T12:24:02","modified_gmt":"2010-12-08T17:24:02","slug":"town-meeting-approves-zoning-for-met-tower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/2010\/05\/town-meeting-approves-zoning-for-met-tower\/","title":{"rendered":"Town Meeting approves zoning for Met Tower"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"none\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Evaluation of the potential for wind power at Needham&#8217;s RTS took an important step forward when Town Meeting approved two zoning articles permitting the erection of a temporary Met Tower (&#8220;Meteorological Tower&#8221;) to measure the wind at the RTS.<\/p>\n<p id=\"none\" style=\"text-align: left;\">On the first night of this year&#8217;s Annual Town Meeting, articles 3 and 4 were approved, creating a <em>Temporary Meteorological Tower Overlay District<\/em> at the Recycling and Transfer Station on Central Avenue.\u00a0 This change <b>clears the way for the erection of the tower as envisioned in the Wind Power Feasibility Study<\/b> that Green Needham and the Town have been working on for the last several years.<\/p>\n<p id=\"none\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The next step is the acquisition and erection of the Met Tower itself.\u00a0 The DPW and Public Facilities Departments will solicit and evaluate bids this summer, with a target of having the tower installed and taking measurements by early fall.<\/b><\/p>\n<p id=\"none\" style=\"text-align: left;\">For additional details and updates, see the <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.greenneedham.org\/gnc\/index.php\/Wind_Turbine_Feasibility\" target=\"_blank\">Wind Turbine Feasibility pages<\/a> on our wiki.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Evaluation of the potential for wind power at Needham&#8217;s RTS took an important step forward when Town Meeting approved two zoning articles permitting the erection of a temporary Met Tower (&#8220;Meteorological Tower&#8221;) to measure the wind at the RTS.
