Check it Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Eastman-Trail-curvy-linear-pic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5573\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Eastman-Trail-curvy-linear-pic-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"Eastman Trail curvy linear pic\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Eastman-Trail-curvy-linear-pic-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Eastman-Trail-curvy-linear-pic-576x1024.jpg 576w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Eastman-Trail-curvy-linear-pic-900x1600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Eastman-Trail-curvy-linear-pic.jpg 1161w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a>The Eastman Conservation Area at the Newman School was created in the mid 1970\u2019s.\u00a0 An Eagle Scout project created the original boardwalk that brought students through the swamp area and onto the circular trail. \u00a0Later, a second layer of boardwalk was built on top of the original. \u00a0The Needham Science Center brings students to the trail to experience swamp, wetlands, volcanic rock, meadow, and pond environments.\u00a0 The renovation of this trail was one of the major projects to be listed as a priority in the 2008 Trails Master Plan.\u00a0 \u00a0Through Community Preservation Act appropriations, the construction of this trail was undertaken in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The Eastman trail combines boardwalk and a specialized stone dust surface into a 1\/3 mile circular trail.\u00a0 Helical piles were driven into the soil and wetlands, minimizing the damage to the wetlands.\u00a0 A sturdy boardwalk was built, in a curvy-linear fashion, around the existing trees.\u00a0 It joins with the stone dust surface allowing for all types of users to venture on the path.\u00a0 Step downs are in place to bring students closer to nature.\u00a0 An outdoor classroom is situated at the mid-point.\u00a0 A dock leads into the pond, and a nearby amphitheater provides ADA access down to the trail, creating a meeting place for visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Access to the trail is behind\/to the left of the\u00a0Newman School at 1155\u00a0 Central Ave. in Needham &#8211;
