{"id":6547,"date":"2017-02-22T14:08:29","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T19:08:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/?p=6547"},"modified":"2017-02-24T23:12:24","modified_gmt":"2017-02-25T04:12:24","slug":"2017-green-business-awards-nominations-now-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/2017\/02\/2017-green-business-awards-nominations-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 Green Business Awards nominations now open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Newton Needham Regional Chamber of Commerce&#8217;s Environment Committee is planning its <b class=\"c\">Spring Business Breakfast<\/b> on <b class=\"c\">May 4<\/b> at the Needham Sheraton and is seeking nominations for the annual <b style=\"color: #009900;\">Green Business Awards<\/b>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nnchamber.com\/initiatives\/green-awards\" target=\"_blank\">Click Here to Nominate a Business<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To qualify, a business must be based in either Newton, Needham or a neighboring community and either <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>has made significant progress in reducing energy, or implemented other environmental strategies toward sustainability, <b>or<\/b><\/li>\n<li>supplies innovative green products or services<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In evaluating businesses, judges may consider the following factors: waste prevention, recycling, purchasing, energy and water conservation, involving stakeholders (such as employees, clients and\/or suppliers), transportation and social capital.<\/p>\n<p>Top honors in 2016 went to Needham&#8217;s <b class=\"c\">TripAdvisor<\/b> in recognition of the construction of its environmentally-friendly 282,000-square foot world headquarters in the N2 Innovation District and to<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"c\">Powerhouse Dynamics<\/b>, a Newton-based company which helps businesses reduce energy costs food waste through a proprietary monitoring system.<\/p>\n<p>Also recognized were Johnny\u2019s Luncheonette in Newton, <b class=\"c\">Needham Bank<\/b>, <b class=\"c\">Mark\u2019s Northeastern Furniture Foundation of Needham<\/b> and two houses of worship, the Eliot Church of Newton and the First Unitarian Society in Newton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Green Business Breakfast is a chance to bring together local businesses, energy and environmental experts and policy makers to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to preserving and protecting our environment,\u201d said Greg Reibman, president of the Newton-Needham Chamber.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope the recognition these outstanding businesses and each year inspires others to also embrace best practices and a commitment to reduce our carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for submissions to be reviewed by the Green Awards Committee is end of business <b class=\"c\">Friday, March 3<\/b>.
