Needham resident Bruce Amsbary reported a great<\/strong> <\/em>experience with the no-cost home energy assessment that he recently had with\u00a0Green Needham’s Mass Save partner, Homeworks Energy<\/em><\/strong>!\u00a0 The assessment took about three hours, and was very informative – Bruce learned\u00a0a lot about how his home could\u00a0be made more energy efficient<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Moreover, the Home Energy Advisor installed, at no cost<\/strong><\/em>, 20<\/em> LED light bulbs, two programmable thermostats, two “smart” power strips that reduce phantom energy usage when electronic devices are turned off but not unplugged, two sink aerators, and one water-saving shower head.\u00a0 Bruce is now saving money and energy<\/strong><\/em>, and reducing<\/strong> carbon output<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 And\u00a0during the assessment, he learned that he could have\u00a0follow up insulation work done, with 75%<\/strong><\/em> of the total cost (max $2000) paid<\/strong> <\/em>for by Mass Save\u00ae.\u00a0\u00a0With such a great deal,\u00a0he plans to add insulation to the floor of his attic!\u00a0 Bruce’s enthusiastic comment on the experience, was “For just three hours of my time, I had a very good dollar per hour payback!”<\/p>\n

All Eversource customers are eligible for an assessment, and can have another one if the prior assessment was done 18+ months ago. Not only does a home energy assessment lower your electric bill, <\/em><\/strong>it\u00a0reduce energy <\/em>u<\/em>se<\/em><\/strong> and carbon output<\/em><\/strong>, and makes your home more comfortable<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 All residents are already <\/span>paying<\/span><\/em><\/strong> for the program through a surcharge on their monthly utility bills.<\/p>\n

The no-cost assessment, which takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, provides residents with:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A personalized report outlining recommended energy efficiency improvements<\/li>\n
  2. Installation of immediate<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/em>savings measures, at no cost<\/em><\/strong>, such as LED light bulbs, programmable thermostats, smart power strips, and water saving devices, as needed<\/li>\n
  3. Recommendations for No-Cost<\/em><\/strong> Air Sealing and subsidized<\/strong><\/em>* insulation, if applicable<\/li>\n
  4. Combustion Safety Testing<\/li>\n
  5. Information about generous rebates on qualifying, energy-efficient heating and water heating equipment, and the HEAT loan program for heating system replacement, domestic and\/or solar hot water heaters, central air conditioning and heat pumps (0% loan financing, up to $25,000 for up to 7 years )<\/li>\n
  6. Screening for eligibility for the ENERGY STAR\u00ae<\/sup> refrigerator rebate<\/li>\n
  7. Infrared Testing, if applicable<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
