{"id":7912,"date":"2018-02-10T19:18:43","date_gmt":"2018-02-11T00:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/?p=7912"},"modified":"2018-02-10T21:30:21","modified_gmt":"2018-02-11T02:30:21","slug":"make-the-climate-your-valentine-three-powerful-things-you-can-do-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/2018\/02\/make-the-climate-your-valentine-three-powerful-things-you-can-do-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Make the Climate your Valentine: three powerful things you can do this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>There are three things you can do this week to make a\u00a0powerful difference to climate change legislature in Massachusetts.\u00a0 Please consider doing <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">at least one<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We know that climate change and the continued use of fossil fuels are already endangering the lives and well-being of citizens today, and will become worse.\u00a0 With the urgency of the issue and the lack of leadership from Washington, states need to do more.\u00a0 There are currently <a href=\"http:\/\/mapowerforward.com\/legislative-agenda-2017-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>five environmental bills<\/em><\/a> being considered by the Massachusetts legislature that would implement meaningful climate action.\u00a0 These bills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Move toward 50% of the state&#8217;s energy needs being met with clean energy by 2030 &#8211; H2700\/S1876<\/li>\n<li>Advance environmental justice &#8211; H2913\/S426<\/li>\n<li>Reform the Department of Public Utilities &#8211; H3400\/S1847<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/denise-garlick.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7928\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/denise-garlick.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"227\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Ensure all communities can access solar energy &#8211; H3396\/S1831<\/li>\n<li>Fully implement the\u00a0Global Warming Solutions Act &#8211; H2149\/S479<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Massachusetts needs your vocal support to ensure these bills will pass.\u00a0 Here is what you can do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Go to Rep. Denise Garlick&#8217;s &#8220;Report to the Community&#8221; event at Town Hall, Needham, Monday February 12, at 7 PM<\/strong> to thank her for co-sponsoring several of these bills and\u00a0encourage her to nudge colleagues who are on the fence.<\/p>\n<p>2.<strong> Go to the Statehouse<\/strong>\u00a0Wednesday, February 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m for Mass Power Forward&#8217;s Clean Energy Lobby Day.\u00a0 Please register so they know which meetings to set up.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/mapowerforward.com\/valentines-day-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Register here<\/a> for the\u00a0<b>Mass Power Forward Valentine\u2019s Day Lobby Day. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">No time?
