The new $10 summer weekend pass on the commuter rail is now in effect and will let you avoid the hassle of driving and the expense of parking in the city. In May the MBTA announced a pilot program allowing <strong>unlimited <\/strong>Saturday and Sunday travel on the <a href=\"https:\/\/mbta.com\/schedules\/commuter-rail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commuter rail system<\/a> for just $10. The pass is good through all zones on the commuter rail (except the CapeFlyer) on weekends from June 9, 2018 through September 2, 2018. \u00a0You can take as many rides as you want. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/MBTATrain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4186 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/MBTATrain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How do you get a pass? The $10 fare is available on <a href=\"https:\/\/mbta.com\/fares\/how-to-pay\/commuter-rail#mticket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mTicket<\/a>, onboard trains, and at ticket windows at North, South, and Back Bay Stations. The special price applies to customers over the age of 12, and paying adults can each bring up to two children 11 or under for free.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/projects\/living-green\/transportation\/commuter-rail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Needham Line<\/a> runs on Saturdays. The Worcester Line, which goes through Wellesley, runs both on Saturdays and Sundays, but please note that trains will be replaced with <a href=\"https:\/\/mbta.com\/news\/2018-05-21\/worcester-line-weekend-bus-replacement-11-weekends-begins-may-26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free bus service during part of the summer<\/a> due to the installation of federally mandated <a href=\"https:\/\/mbta.com\/ptc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Positive Train Control (PTC)<\/a> infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Email <a href=\"mailto:weekendpass@mbta.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weekendpass@mbta.com<\/a> if you have questions or comments about the pilot program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a bargain!
