The plaintiffs in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourchildrenstrust.org\/us\/federal-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Juliana vs United States<\/em> <\/a>&#8212; 21 young people from across the country &#8212; think so.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Juliana-vs-US.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Juliana-vs-US-300x110.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Juliana-vs-US-300x110.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Juliana-vs-US-768x281.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Juliana-vs-US-1024x375.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Juliana-vs-US-560x205.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Juliana-vs-US.jpg 1538w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their complaint asserts that the federal government has violated their fundamental constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property by substantially causing or contributing to a dangerous concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, and thus dangerously interfering with a stable climate system.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit calls for a science-based National Climate Recovery Plan\u2013\u2013a plan that would end the reign of fossil fuels and lead to swift decarbonization.<\/p>\n<p>Despite many attempts by the federal\u00a0 government to have the case dismissed, a trial date has been set for October 29, 2018, in the U.S. District Court in Oregon. On that date people in Boston and across the country will rally outside Federal courthouses in support of this lawsuit, which some have called the trial of the century.
