{"id":1538,"date":"2011-09-06T21:16:19","date_gmt":"2011-09-07T01:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/?p=1538"},"modified":"2011-09-22T16:29:51","modified_gmt":"2011-09-22T20:29:51","slug":"green-needham-meeting-understanding-the-stretch-code","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/event\/green-needham-meeting-understanding-the-stretch-code\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Needham Meeting &#8211; Understanding the Stretch Code"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a positive recommendation from the Green Communities Study Committee in August, Needham will\u00a0 be considering adopting the Stretch Energy Code, a required step to becoming a Green Community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Green Needham&#8217;s September meeting will feature an informational program explaining the stretch code<\/strong>. This  amendment to the state&#8217;s existing building code, which may be adopted by cities  and towns, requires new buildings and major renovations to be more  energy efficient.<\/p>\n<p>What would the adoption of the Stretch Code mean for you?\u00a0 Green Needham\u2019s  program will provide an <strong>explanation of the code<\/strong> and, more importantly, <strong>offer the opportunity for building professionals, town officials and staff, and the general public to get their questions answered<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The lead presenter will be <strong>Greg Krantz<\/strong>, who has done in-depth Stretch Code meetings for communities who are about to make a decision.\u00a0 He is a lead trainer for HERS raters and currently manages the Energy Star New Homes program for Massachusetts. \u00a0Also speaking will be <strong>John Keohane<\/strong>, a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater from Dedham who spoke to Needham\u2019s Green Communities Study Committee last spring.<\/p>\n<p>Adopting the stretch code is one step in the process of becoming a \u201cGreen Community,\u201d a designation which would make Needham <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/2010\/07\/massachusetts-green-communities-receive-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\">eligible for funding<\/a> to support its energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, and provide access to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenneedham.org\/blog\/2011\/07\/25-communities-to-receive-grant-for-electric-vehicle-charging-stations\/\" target=\"_blank\">innovative energy programs<\/a> as well as additional technical support and assistance from the Green Communities Division of the Commonwealth&#8217;s Department of Energy Resources.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy-four Massachusetts cities and towns have already become Green Communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following a positive recommendation from the Green Communities Study Committee in August, Needham will\u00a0 be considering adopting the Stretch Energy Code, a required step to becoming a Green Community.
