Green Needham’s Plastic Waste Reduction Group<\/strong> is working toward passing a Plastic Bag Ban by-law for our town.\u00a0 We will be having a planning meeting on\u00a0Wednesday, June 22nd from 7-8:30PM, <\/strong>and invite anyone interested in helping to join us.\u00a0 We will devise a plan to reach out to Town Meeting members to get their help in encouraging our Select Board to add the by-law to the October warrant for a vote. Our larger goal is to motivate people to bring\u00a0reusable bags when shopping, so we will also discuss ways to encourage this change in behavior including: adding signage at stores as reminders, discussing the feasibility of adding a fee for paper bags, and ways to involve students in elementary, middle and high school to help spread the word.<\/p>\n

In addition, our group aims to educate Needhamites on the negative impact of single-use plastics on climate change, human health, and the environment.\u00a0 To that end, we are working on a Public Service Announcement, and will also host guest speakers to raise awareness about this important topic.<\/p>\n
