Green Needham thanks Brian Swett, Energy and Environment Chief for the City of Boston, for coming to Needham on May 20th to present Boston’s climate change strategy. Since creating its first climate change strategy in 2007, Boston under Mayor Menino has been a national leader in developing and executing a comprehensive strategy that encompasses mitigation (reducing greenhouse gas emissions), adaptation (planning and creating a more resilient infrastructure) and economic growth (seizing the opportunities to create a stronger and more vibrant economy).

One attendee summed up the response of many when she observed that “in the face of so much discouraging news, it was so energizing to hear this story and see the very real success that is possible when there’s leadership and commitment”.

Also joining us were representatives from MAPC, the regional planning agency that works with cities in towns in our area, including Needham. Green Needham is encouraging Needham and our neighboring towns to begin a dialogue on how we can take advantage of some of the great work being done in Boston to better plan the future or our communities.
