Green Needham and the Interfaith Environmental Network worked with the Department of Public Works, the Park & Recreation Commission and the Trustees of Memorial Park to initiate the program.

The program kicked off at the end of April with the installation of four bottle-shaped containers – two at Memorial Park and two at DeFazio field. The containers were paid for by Needham Houses of Worship represented in the Interfaith Environmental Network.

Sports organizations using the fields this spring – including the Needham Public Schools Athletic Department, the Needham Soccer Club and Needham Baseball – are helping to spread the word and encourage people to recycle bottles and cans at the fields. If the pilot is successful, Green Needham and the Interfaith Environmental Network hope to work with the Town and other organizations to expand availability of recycling to other locations in Needham.
