Fresh Food and New Vendors at the Needham Farmers Market

A new Vendor joining the Needham Farmers Market on August 24 is Fiore d’Italia. This renowned chef is known to all as the Pastaman and sells fresh frozen pasta, sauces and cheeses at many area farmers markets. Now Fiore d’Italia will be a part of every Needham Farmers Market for the remainder of the season.

MacArthur Farm is offering their “Mac Dozen” corn sale, 14 ears of corn for $3. The deal is available for the remainder of corn season.

This week’s fresh food include corn, apples, peaches (famous Carlson Orchards), raspberries, strawberries, beans, brocolli, cauliflower, radishes, scallions, water spinach, Maine blueberries (at last!), tomatoes (including some deals!) cut flowers, potatoes, beets, fresh onions, leeks and Berbarian Leeks, summer squash, zucchini, patty pan squash, slicing cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, lemon cucumbers, escarole, radicchio, callalloo, green kale, purple kale and dinosaur kale, chard, lettuce, orange carrots, red white and blue carrots, eggplant, green peppers, hot peppers, okra, cabbage, kohlrabi, lots of herbs and more!

The “Chef in the House” program returns this week, August 24th, to the Needham Farmers Market. Chef Vanessa will be on the patio of the Center Café and will be preparing corn risotto with fresh herbs.

The Needham Farmers Market will be saying “Goodby Pluto” by recognizing the day Pluto was no longer considered a planet. On this day in 2006 the International Astronomical Union redefined the term “planet” such that Pluto no longer qualified, and instead was redefined as a “dwarf planet” of which we have many hundreds in our solar system. The market is asking for the children’s help in bidding farewell to the little planet by writing down the name of the eight planets that make up our solar system. The first 20 participating children will receive $5 in “farmers bucks” to spend at any of the day’s vendors.

This week’s featured vendor is Uyghur Bread. Uyghur Bread is owned and operated by Nicole Hupper. Nicole prides herself on delivering high-quality service and customer satisfaction. Her bread recipe has been in her family for generations and as of last month she decided to share her delicious bread with everyone by opening up “Uyghur Bread”. Her all-natural homemade breads can be enjoyed plain or with any favorite spread such as butter and honey. When you stop by for a free sample at the farmers market she will have you try her favorite bread recipe which includes walnuts and raisins.

The market’s musical performance sponsored by Not Your Average Joe’s Bar and Kitchen Needham will be the MetoWest Jazz Project.

Two local artists, Michelle Fuedo and Donna DeMaria will be bringing their work to display and sell at this week’s market.

Our vendors  include MacArthur Farm, Neighborhood Farm,  Globe Fish, Lilac Hedge, Susie’s Baking/FUNdamentally Nuts, Two Brothers Cookies, Playful Pub, Harriett’s Gluten Free, Fior d’Italia, and Uyghur Bread.

The Needham Farmers Market, sponsored by Needham Bank; opens at 12 p.m. and closes at 4 p.m. every Sunday through Nov. 23rd. Location is the municipal parking lot behind Needham Bank off of Garden St. Plenty of free parking is available.
