Eat healthy and delicious as you lower your carbon footprint and try new recipes.

  • Cut down meat, especially beef, which is very energy intensive.
  • Sign up for Meatless Monday newsletter to get important information and great ideas about plant-based recipes.
  • Save money and reduce carbon emissions by using up the food you buy. (Tips to avoid food waste.)

Eat Local! Support local farmers and businesses by shopping at the Needham Farmers Market and Volante Farms. In addition to locally grown fruits and veggies, you might come home with delicious breads or something new for lunch.

Landscape with native and other pollinator-friendly plants to promote biodiversity, protect pollinators, store carbon, and increase your property’s ability to absorb water in storm events. Explore Green Needham’s section on Sustainable Landscaping.

Recycle Right — and get answers to your questions! Check out the State’s Recycle Smart website, a great resource that’s fun and user friendly. It allows you to type in specific items and see if they belong in the recycling bin, can be recycled or reused elsewhere, or should go in the trash. It will help you avoid “wishful recycling” that contaminates the recycling stream by including unrecyclable items.
