Needham residents with an RTS sticker may bring metal hangers to RTS North Area for Scrap Metal.

Household Hazardous Waste (4/2020)

The town sponsors one Household Hazardous Waste collection event each year for all Needham residents at no charge, taking items such as mothballs, pesticides, weed killer, pool chemicals, photography chemicals, and acids. See details for date and acceptable materials. A driver’s license or RTS disposal sticker are required as proof of residency. No materials will be accepted from commercial operations. The event is held at the DPW, 470 Dedham Avenue – Enter at DeFazio Field.
The Town of Needham has also entered into reciprocal agreements with six other local municipalities for Household Hazardous Waste collection. A fee will be assessed when bringing hazardous waste to a town where you are not a resident. Please view the details here: Reciprocal Household Hazardous Waste Locations

The Minuteman Regional Hazardous Waste Facility in Lexington accepts hazardous waste one day per month April –November. Needham residents must pay a fee. Check their website for more information, including dates, or call (781) 274-8334. The 2020 fee is $51 for up to 12 gallons of materials (dry or liquid volume equivalent.) The fee for 12 – 25 gallons of materials is $75. Needham residents bringing more than 25 gallons of materials will be charged a fee on top of the $75 based on the amount of material. Please note that Clean Harbor will only accept checks as method of payment.

- Attended trailer is located at 115 Rumford Avenue, Newton (Open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Closed Sundays.) (As of Feb. 2021, this is no longer listed on the Goodwill website.)

Working through referring agencies, New Life provides household furnishings to individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness. They accept gently used furniture, as well as certain household items such as kitchen items and linens and towels (ones that you would give to family or a friend), and make them available at no charge to those in need. To access their donation guidelines for various types of household items, click on the donation category in the left column.
Residents with an RTS sticker can drop off household items in good working order at the Reuse-It Swap Shop, a volunteer-run area at the RTS where residents can ‘give and take’ items. All items must be approved by volunteers before being dropped off. See guidelines and drop-off hours. (As of February 2021, the Swap Shop, donation bins and Goodwill trailer remain closed.)

They accept donations of house wares, CDs, DVDs, tapes, vinyl records, as well as clothing, sports equipment, and other items for reuse. For more information click here. Specific guidelines may change from store to store. Savers is a for-profit operation which purchases items that have been donated to various nonprofits. The West Roxbury store is also a donation location for the EPILEPSY FOUNDATION.
