Solarize Mass Plus Needham is planning to brighten up the bleak midwinter days with a variety of ways to find out how you can green your home. From a cozy house party to a local workshop or a stay-at-home webinar, there are lots of ways to get information about the green technologies the Solarize program is promoting: solar panels, air source heat pumps (which efficiently cool and heat your home with electricity) and electric vehicles.

  • Friday, January 31, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Stop by Liz Gregg’s house party at 1306 Great Plain Ave., at the corner of Curve St. Warm up around the wood stove and enjoy beer, wine, apps, Treat Cupcake Bar desserts, and door prizes from local businesses. The Town’s official Solarize Needham vendors, Boston Solar and N.E.T.R. Inc., will be on hand to answer questions and explain the Federal and State financial incentives available in 2020.   • Thursday, February 6, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Electric Vehicle (EV) webinar. Green Needham has partnered with the non-profit Green Energy Consumers Alliance to make it easier for you to drive electric. Green Energy Consumers Alliance runs a program called Drive Green that makes researching, test-driving, and buying or leasing electric cars easier and more affordable. Join us for this hour-long webinar to get all of your electric car questions answered! We’ll talk about why electric vehicles are a good choice, how charging works, available incentives, and more!   • Monday, February 24, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Workshop on Solar Panels and the Solarize Mass Plus Needham Program. Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave. Needham. + Google Map The Environmental Action Committee at Temple Beth Shalom is hosting Solarize Mass Plus Needham, a program to promote rooftop solar, air source heat pumps, which heat and cool a home, as well as electric cars. Boston Solar will present on the benefits of “going solar” and help you determine if solar will work on your home. The program is free and open to the public.

The Town’s Solarize Mass Plus Needham program, which began in September 2019, aims to help Needham residents reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs. The program offers discounted pricing from pre-approved vendors for solar panels and air source heat pumps. The discounts are available through April 2020. Special deals on Electric Vehicles through the Green Energy Consumers Alliance are also available.
